Spun Yarn 96
Knitting On the Wild Side 2018
This may be my briefest Spunyarn yet:
I am excited to announce the release of the camp information for this year's Knitting on the Wild Side Camp!
I will be hosting my fourth camp for intrepid knitters at my home-away-from-home, Big Tancook Island,
You can expect a warm Tancook welcome while you enjoy the rugged beauty of this remote island full of peace and quiet that scarcely can be imagined in our modern world. You'll travel back in time and leave the everyday world behind the moment you step ashore.
Formal knitting classes will be conducted for 3 hours each morning and
additional informal gatherings for social knitting with me will be available at other times through the week. As in previous years,
classes will take place in the
Community Center, an excellent teaching space. A luxury yarn pack will be included in your camp registration and an equipment supply
list will be sent to attendees.
With such a small group, we will be able to explore ideas more freely than is usual in a conventional workshop environment.
The topic for this year's camp will be hats. We will explore the attributes of a great hat and the best techniques and methods
to knit them. Special emphasis will be given to facings, linings, shapings and direction of knitting.
You may select one of my patterns or work on your own design using your chosen types of knitting stitches.
Afternoons will be free to spend as you wish. Curled up with a book on the beach (it's pebbly, but pretty), sipping tea on
your cottage deck overlooking the ocean, knitting in the gallery with friends or wandering freely. Optional weather-dependent
plans include a bird watching walk with
(she knows where they all hang out and what they are called), an expedition
by ferry to Little Tancook Island, or touring by bicycle or on foot.
If the above sounds blissfully appealing to you, please email me at email@example.com.
Bookings open on Thursday, March 22th at 1300 Atlantic Daylight Time (ADT).
SnowFire DK Blanket
I have just cast off my SnowFire DK Blanket! At 1.75 rounds away from completion, I found myself with only 20 g of blue yarn remaining, which added a wee bit of stress towards the end. Not to worry, though, I did NOT run out of yarn!
From cast on back on July 10th, 2017, this blanket's creation has been a journey. Its first adventure was back-country camping in
National Park, then to Tancook Island more than a few times, over to the UK and onto the
It has cruised the Oxford,
Bridgewater, Leeds and Liverpool, Rochdale and Llangollen canals (to name but a few) and then returned to Halifax via
St. John's, Newfoundland. Its home remained fairly static of late with the exception of our recent road trip to Quebec - I confess that since we hit
Round 220ish, it began to seem too large to take out with me.
The pattern-in-progress is available now and there is an active conversation about the blanket in my Neatby Knitters Group on Ravelry. The $12 pattern contains links to some 15 videos - so even if you never intend to knit one, there are lots of techniques to watch.
Wishing you Happy Stitches,
SnowFire DK Blanket by Lucy Neatby
Knit yourself an heirloom with this spectacularly beautiful and warm double-layer blanket!
This project makes for wonderful travel knitting: interesting, colourful, technically pleasing, but still portable and fun.
Using ombré yarns allows you colour variety but only requires you to transport two balls of yarn at a time. The centre-out DK method is adaptable to various yarn weights and gauges.
While the pattern is still under construction, it is already fit for use. I will continue to update it until it is complete with final pictures, video links and layout.
KnitCircus Yarns have put together a special SnowFire DK Blanket kit! Find the details here.
Back in the days of paper-only patterns, we were fortunate to
sell wonderful designs by Ilga Leja
and Catherine Vardy in addition
to Lucy patterns. Our new website, the transition to digital photos,
and various other technicalities now prevent us from marketing these
We are on the last of these wonderful, but now-neglected, patterns (including some of my own old style patterns). Rather than putting them into a landfill, we have been offering them as a collection! For $10 Cdn (plus shipping and applicable taxes), you will receive a surprise package of 10 diverse patterns.
The range of designs is very wide! There are mittens (fulled and otherwise), tams, booties, shawls, scarves, socks, hats and sweaters--to name but a few. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.
You'll find this special pattern collection, and many more sale items, in the Clearance section of my website.
