Spun Yarn 79
February 29, 2016
Just a quick Spun Yarn to celebrate our bonus day--I could use one every week. Wishing you a Happy Leap Year with a Flash Sale today!
I have been very busy juggling family life and work of late. Thankfully,
because of our weird warm winter (all of our snow suddenly melted last
week and the lakes are starting to thaw at the edges), I am not feeling
quite as ski-deprived as I would otherwise have been.
I'd honestly rather that the ski hills were having a good year, but, selfishly, it is somewhat easier to know that they are suffering along with me.
The lack of snow and ice is a relief to many, especially as Nova Scotians remember last winter's ice-mageddon, but I still miss winter. Without snow and storms the weather is dull, with only walking as a compensatory activity. It might be time to put air in my bike tires! Looking forward to more summery times, I have just pulled out my maps of the UK Canal System: I can dream!
The Excitement is Starting to Build!
I'm busily working on the behind-the-scenes paperwork for Susan Carlson's quilt workshop on Big Tancook Island, sending out e-brochures for both the quilt and knit Camps and preparing myself for the fun (and reality) of registration day! The problem with having a set start to registration (for fairness) is that, until that very moment, one has no real idea of the possible response, especially with an experimental new quilting workshop. I'm rather nervously waiting...
Registration opens on Tuesday, March 29th at 1300 Atlantic Daylight Time, when you can contact us by email in order to sign up for either Camp.
Please email anytime to receive the e-brochure for either camp!
An Upcoming Craftsy Announcement!
I have also been spending some time in developing material and samples for a forthcoming new Craftsy class. I can't say more about that just yet, but I can tell you how excited I am that 28 000 knitters (I am assuming they are all knitters!) have joined the free Sock Knit Along since it opened in January. That makes for a LOT of socks. It's not too late to join, by the way, and there is one last pattern yet to be released!
Craft Month Celebrations
For the next two weeks, to celebrate Craft Month, anyone purchasing a Craftsy class will be entered to win a $1000 donation to the craft charity of their choice.
In addition, any new customers (never previously purchased a paid class, although you may already be enrolled in free classes) using my Discount Affiliate Link will secure my entry into a Teachers' Draw at Craftsy.
I generally hate promoting things, but encouraging learning and acquiring new skills can never be a bad thing. You can even enlist a friend!
Mardi Gras Update
I'm currently charting the last 20 or 30 rows of my new PIP, the Mardi Gras blanket. I have knitted up to Rnd 172, and it's been a fun project all the way! Check out some of the other Mardi Gras blankets-in-progress on our Ravelry thread. I am set to start filming the clips for the new Tutorials.
Wishing you all good health, Happy Stitches and the weather of your choosing!
Back in the days of paper-only patterns, we were fortunate to
sell wonderful designs by Ilga Leja
and Catherine Vardy in addition
to Lucy patterns. Our new website, the transition to digital photos,
and various other technicalities now prevent us from marketing these
We still have a few of these wonderful, but now-neglected, patterns available (including some of my own old style patterns). Rather than putting them into a landfill, we would like to offer a collection of them to you! For $10 Cdn (plus shipping and applicable taxes), you will receive a surprise package of 10 diverse patterns. When you order two packages, we'll be sure not to send any duplicates.
The range of designs is very wide! There are mittens (fulled and otherwise), tams, booties, shawls, scarves, socks, hats and sweaters--to name but a few. I think you will be pleasantly surprised.
