sailing off into the sunset

teaching knitting has always been one of my favourite things to do Some Big News
I've found myself wrestling with my work/life balance lately. And in light of several dear friends sadly leaving us this terrible year, I have decided to make some pretty big changes aimed at reducing the stress in my life.
Tradewind Knitwear Designs has been in existence for about 25 years. When it's your business, you never go home and forget about work or take a complete holiday.
The knitting is the easy bit. The teaching is the fun bit. Meeting knitters and making friends around the world has been the best bit!

When running a business, there are are forms to be filled, deadlines to meet, numbers to be crunched. Add to that the intermittent horrible battles such a the month long shut down inflicted by PayPal and out of the blue tax audits by Revenue Canada, and you might see why I've found myself growing weary.

the easy bit After several years of mulling things over and weighing the pros and cons, I have decided to retire Tradewind Knitwear Designs.
While I do still plan on writing and releasing new patterns, as well as YouTube videos, we will be closing down the website at the end of the year.

The undoing of a business is hugely complex; I am intertwined with it like the Gordian knot. It currently seems intractable, but I will take a small pair of scissors and start snipping away. I'm hoping to continue my Spunyarn newsletters in some modified format and make my patterns available by other means, but the final details are all a little unclear at present.

check out our sale items! Please don't panic! We will give you the necessary steps to save your virtual products.
My digital patterns will continue to be available for purchase at Ravelry, Craftsy and LoveKnitting. For a small fee, we are offering to transfer your purchased patterns from your Notebook at to your library at Ravelry.

Additionally, please do take full advantage of our clearance sale. Check the website for bargains on yarn, DVDs and books.

My November Knit-Along!

Storm Mountain Hat Kit

Storm Mountain Hat Kit and Knit Along by Lucy Neatby

I'd love to have you join me for my November Storm Mountain Hat Knit-Along! We'll start knitting together on November 1st.
I've warmed up my needles by knitting a couple of these now and am looking forward to my third one...
There are many reasons why I love the doubleknit Storm Mountain pattern. It can be made using any yarn weight from fingering to aran, in sizes from newborn to the largest brain box. The hat features a connected inner and outer layer and can be lined with a head-friendly yarn.
It has minimal patterning and no chart reading--it's all about the knits and purls!
This pattern gives you the freedom to play with stitch mount and examine your preferred technique.

I've also included an option for a flatter crown and an interesting "Space Cadet" top-stalk. This one is a bit fiddly but fun!
In terms of colours, the world is your oyster. I'm using two colours of the BFL Lil' Sport yarns to create stripes, and then a third brightly contrasting colour for the lining. It also looks great with a handpaint/variegated yarn for the exterior combined with a brightly contrasting lining colour.

For this Knit-Along, we've created an exclusive Storm Mountain Hat kit which includes the digital pattern, 3 skeins of our gorgeous BFL Lil' Sport yarns AND the Storm Mountain Hat Tutorial!
Alternately, you can shop your stash and buy the pattern from Ravelry.

Updated Night and Day Pattern Updates

Night and Day Blanket To owners of the Night and Day DK Blanket pattern: I recently discovered that something odd had been going on with the updates to this pattern, they hadn't actually been updating the file (I was unaware and there were still blank image placeholders). The issue has been resolved and the new pdf in place now!
Please do check that you have downloaded the most recent file of the pattern, the Edition date at the bottom of the title page should be 10/20.
